Common Questions About Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Have a question about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy? We have the answer. Take a look at some of the frequently asked questions about the procedure. Reach out to us for more information.
  • What should I do before I schedule an appointment?

No fasting is required in advance to the procedure.

  • What should I do before the procedure?

One week before the procedure, if possible, stop all NSAID's (Asprin, Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen sodium, etc.) No fasting in advance of the procedure is required.

  • What test is required before the insertion?

Sun Valley Health and Wellness require, at the minimum, our comprehensive blood panel which can be discussed with your provider.

  • What happens during the in-office insertion?

During the in-office visit, which only takes a few minutes, patients are brought into the exam room, and the insertion site is numbed. The most common site of insertion is the upper buttocks. A small incision is then made for the pellet to be inserted. Once the pellet is inserted, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage.

  • What happens during the week following the insertion?

After pellet insertion, it's best to eliminate lower body exercise. This doesn't include walking, but, extraneous exercise is not recommended. Swimming, hot tubs, and bath tubs are to be avoided. This does not include showers. After removal of the bandage, normal activities may resume.

  • How often is pellet insertion necessary?

Each patient's symptoms are unique as well as their paths to optimization. Your journey will be specialized to fit your specific needs. Symptoms may take time to be resolved, just as it took time for your hormones to become imbalanced. Women, on average, get repelleted every four months and men every six months.

  • What happens to pellets after insertion?

Since the pellets are bio-identical and contain nothing other than the hormone your body naturally produces, the pellets will completely dissolve and be absorbed, leaving nothing behind.
